Campaigns

Campaigns help you organize and track marketing initiatives, projects, or budget-related activities. Each campaign gets its own page where you monitor spend, conversions, revenue, and ROI — and capture what you learned once it’s over.

Navigate to Campaigns in the left sidebar to see all campaigns for your organization.

The Campaigns List

The list is a simple index of everything running. Four columns:

ColumnDescription
CampaignCampaign name
StatusDraft, Planned, In Progress, or Finished
AuthorWho created the campaign
CreatedWhen it was created

Click any row to open the campaign. Everything else — amounts, labels, owner, linked line items, CRM mappings — lives on the campaign page.

Sort by clicking any column header. Click again to reverse the order. Status sorts by lifecycle (Draft → Finished) rather than alphabetically.

Creating a Campaign

Click Create Campaign in the top-right corner and fill in:

  • Name (required): A descriptive name for your campaign
  • Owner: The team member responsible
  • Budget: Associate with an existing budget (optional)
  • Budget target: A planned amount for the campaign
  • Currency: The currency for financial metrics

You can change all of these later, and add a description, status, and labels once the campaign exists.

The Campaign Page

The campaign page has two parts: a main column with the scoreboard, description, linked line items, and learnings — and a details rail down the side holding the campaign’s properties.

The Scoreboard

Six metrics across the top of the page:

MetricDescription
PlannedTarget budget for the campaign
ActualActual spend
LeadsNumber of conversions
RevenueRevenue attributed to the campaign
CACCustomer Acquisition Cost = Actual ÷ Leads
ROIReturn on Investment = (Revenue − Actual) ÷ Actual

Each cell tells you where its number comes from:

  • A pencil means you can type the value in directly
  • A question mark means the value is calculated — hover it to see how, whether that’s “From 4 line items”, “Synced from Attio”, or “Actual ÷ Leads”

Where Planned and Actual Come From

If you’ve linked budget line items to the campaign and those line items carry values, Planned and Actual are their totals. If they don’t, the campaign uses the figures you typed in yourself.

When linked line items are supplying Planned, your own target doesn’t disappear — it stays editable in the details rail as Budget target, so you can still compare what you intended to spend against what the budget actually holds.

Campaign Details

The rail on the right holds:

  • Name
  • Status — Draft, Planned, In Progress, or Finished
  • Owner
  • Currency
  • Budget — which budget this campaign belongs to
  • Created by and Created
  • Budget target — your own planned figure, when line items are supplying Planned
  • Labels

Description

Below the scoreboard, describe what the campaign is and what it’s meant to achieve. Useful context for anyone opening it months later — and for Budget Buddy when you ask about it.

Linking Line Items

Link budget line items to a campaign to aggregate their planned and actual values.

  1. Open the campaign
  2. In the Line items section, click Add line items
  3. Search for line items from your budgets and select the ones to link

The picker stays open as you go, so you can add several in a row. To unlink one, remove it from the line items table.

Once linked, the scoreboard’s Planned and Actual reflect the line item totals, and CAC and ROI are calculated from them.

Learnings & Notes

Every campaign page has a Learnings & Notes section for capturing what worked, what didn’t, and whether you’d do it again. It’s built for the post-mortem — the “was this conference worth exhibiting at?” write-up that usually ends up lost in a doc somewhere.

Click Add note, write it up, and save. Notes are saved to your Marketing Brain  under Learnings, which means they’re searchable there and available to Budget Buddy when you’re planning next year’s spend.

Notes stay in your Marketing Brain even if the campaign is later deleted.

Note: Learnings & Notes is part of AI Budget Buddy. If Budget Buddy isn’t enabled for your organization, the section prompts you to turn it on.

Labels

Labels help you categorize campaigns. They’re color-coded and shared across your organization.

To add them, open a campaign and click Labels in the details rail, then select existing labels or type a new name and create it.

Calculated Metrics

Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC): Actual ÷ Leads A lower CAC indicates more efficient spending.

Return on Investment (ROI): (Revenue − Actual) ÷ Actual × 100%

  • Positive ROI (green): Campaign is profitable
  • Negative ROI (red): Campaign cost more than it generated
  • Dash (—): Cannot calculate (missing data)

CRM Sync

Campaigns can pull conversion and revenue data straight from your CRM. Once Attio or HubSpot is connected for your organization, open a campaign and click Connect to Attio or Connect to HubSpot in the top-right corner to map it to a pipeline stage. Leads and Revenue then update themselves — the source shows up on hover as “Synced from Attio” or “Synced from HubSpot,” with the logo next to the value.

See the Attio Integration Guide for setup instructions.

Deleting a Campaign

Open the campaign, click the ⋯ menu in the top-right corner, and choose Delete campaign. You’ll be asked to confirm.

Deleting is only available from the campaign page, and only to administrators.

Permissions

  • Admins can create, edit, and delete campaigns
  • Members can view campaigns and their details

Tips

  • Use labels consistently to make campaigns easy to group across your team
  • Link line items so spend tracks itself instead of being retyped
  • Set up CRM sync to track conversions without manual entry
  • Write the learning while it’s fresh — right after the campaign wraps, not at next year’s planning session
  • Monitor CAC and ROI to identify your best-performing campaigns
