Etropo in Claude, ChatGPT & Other AI Assistants

Etropo for AI assistants. An AI assistant answers the question "Which categories have the largest planned amounts this year?" with a table of categories and planned amounts from Etropo

Already doing your thinking in an AI assistant? Bring your marketing budget with you. Etropo has official plugins for Claude and ChatGPT and an app for HubSpot Breeze agents. Any other AI tool that supports MCP connects to Etropo the same way. Once connected, your assistant can look up spend, compare planned amounts with actuals, and update your budget in conversation.

What Is MCP?

The plugins are built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that connects AI assistants to the tools you already use. You do not need to know anything about it to use the plugins. It means Etropo is not limited to one assistant: any AI tool that supports MCP can connect to your budget.

Before You Start

  • An Etropo account with a budget
  • The admin role in the organization you want to connect
  • A Pro or Custom plan. See pricing
  • If you use two-factor authentication, your code. Etropo asks for it before the approval screen

Connect Other AI Assistants

For Claude, ChatGPT and HubSpot, follow the pages linked above. For any other AI tool that supports MCP, the setup differs a little from tool to tool, but the flow is the same:

  1. In your AI tool, add a new MCP connection. Tools call this a connector, an MCP server, or an app
  2. Enter the address of the Etropo MCP server: https://app.etropo.com/api/mcp
  3. Sign in to Etropo in the browser window that opens
  4. Approve the connection
  5. Back in your AI tool, start a new conversation and ask about your budget

Claude Desktop: open Settings → Connectors, click Add custom connector, and enter the address above.

Claude Code: run this command, then follow the sign-in prompt:

claude mcp add --transport http etropo https://app.etropo.com/api/mcp

Approving the Connection

Whichever assistant you use, Etropo shows the same approval screen before it shares anything:

  1. Check the Account. This is the Etropo account you are signed in with
  2. Check the Organization. If you are an admin of more than one, choose the one to connect
  3. Click Authorize

You approve once. After that, your assistant can work with your budget whenever you ask. To stop, click Deny and Etropo shares nothing.

What You Can Do

Once connected, your assistant can read your budget and make changes for you:

  • Find line items and spend: “Show me my paid media line items with their planned amounts for Q3 2026”
  • Compare planned amounts with actuals: “Which line items are over budget this month?”
  • See spend by channel: “How much is planned for each channel this quarter?”
  • Update your budget: “Set the planned amount for Google Ads – North America to $6,000 for January through March 2027”
  • Manage approvals and ownership: “Approve all Q2 line items under $5,000”
  • Use your Marketing Brain: “What did we learn from our LinkedIn campaigns?”

Your assistant works with the same numbers you see in the app, including actuals that sync daily from Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and Meta Ads. See What You Can Do for the full list with example prompts.

Permissions

Your assistant signs in as you. It can only see and change what you can see and change in Etropo. You approve the connection yourself, you can disconnect at any time, and nobody else can use your connection. See Permissions & Security.

Disconnecting

Remove Etropo in your AI assistant’s settings, in the same place you manage its other plugins and connections. After that, the assistant can no longer reach your budget.

Troubleshooting

”Admin access required”

Only organization admins can connect an AI assistant. Ask an admin in your organization to give you the admin role, then try again. See Inviting Team for how roles work.

The approval screen says the request has expired

An approval request is valid for a short time only. Go back to your AI assistant and start the connection again.

My assistant does not use Etropo

  • Check that Etropo is still connected and switched on in your assistant’s settings
  • Name Etropo in your request: “Using Etropo, …”
  • Start a new conversation. Some assistants only pick up a new connection in a new chat

My assistant cannot find a line item or category

Your assistant sees exactly what you see in Etropo. If something is missing, check that it exists in the organization you connected and that you have access to its category.

An update was skipped

Your assistant skips amounts it is not allowed to overwrite and tells you which ones. See Set Planned Amounts and Actuals.

My assistant says it is making too many requests

To protect your account, Etropo limits how quickly an assistant can send requests. Wait a minute and try again.

How This Relates to Budget Buddy

Budget Buddy is the same agent inside the Etropo app, Slack, and Teams. The plugins bring it into the assistant you already use, so you can combine it with everything else you do there, such as drafting a board update or planning a campaign.
